The «Intertwined» Scarf Collection by Kudel: The heritage of the North, woven into every pattern.
This collection embodies the unique heritage of the Verkhnevychegodsk painting style, which is exclusive to the Komi lands. Each scarf is a modern interpretation of ancient symbols, a dialogue between the past and the present.

An Artistic Interpretation of Heritage

- Inspiration: The design is rooted in the unique Verkhnevychegodsk painting style, which traditionally adorned distaffs—one of the main symbols of the hearth, home, and women’s labor. Each distaff was a true work of art, featuring patterns and ornaments imbued with sacred meaning and holding the secrets of an ancestral worldview.
- The Central Motif: The composition is centered around an ancient solar sign. In Komi mythology, it symbolizes life force, fertility, and the feminine principle, which protects the family line.
- The Framing: The scarf’s border is adorned with ornamental motifs traditionally painted on the stem of a distaff. This design forges a powerful connection between past and present, linking the modern woman who wears it to the legacy of her ancestors.

The Poetry of Color
The colour of each scarf in the collection is a page from the book of the Komi Republic’s vast landscapes:
Blue — Purity and Hope. This is the color of the crystal-clear waters of the Subpolar Urals' mountain rivers, mirroring the boundless sky. It symbolizes a dream—bright and gentle, like a summer dawn in the tundra.
Green — The Soul of the Land. This is the very soul of the region, its living breath. It is the color of the Parma—the vast, centuries-old taiga forest, a veritable green ocean that nourishes, shelters, and inspires. A color of life, eternal growth, and the raw power of nature.
Red — The Wealth and Bounty of the Land. This red speaks to the wealth and bounty of the Komi land. It recalls the luscious berries scattered across the moss like jewels: ruby lingonberries, scarlet cranberries, coppery stone brambles, and sun-kissed cloudberries. It is the color of energy, joy, and fertility.
White — Serenity and Stillness. This is the color of boundless snowfields that envelop the land in a giant, protective cocoon. Beneath this pure, warm blanket, nature slumbers to gather its strength, ready to reawaken in all its glory come spring. It is the color of purity, peace, and renewal.
A Northern Spirit, Woven into Fabric
The scarfs' understated design embodies the philosophy of the northern spirit. Its balanced composition imparts a sense of inner serenity, stability, and security—like that of a sturdy ancestral home—while the muted hues express the Komi people’s profound love for nature.

This scarf is more than a mere adornment. It is a talisman, carrying within it the power of nature, the wisdom of ancestors, and the vivid poetry of the North. It tells the story of a land where the murmur of rivers, the rustle of cedars, and the silence of snows merge into one harmonious song.
The packaging is an elegant, cylindrical tube crafted from flexible wood veneer.
It does more than simply house the scarf; it is an extension of the product itself—a cradle of sorts, returning the piece to its origins, to the very wood from which the distaffs were once made.
